Mr. Giovanni Nicotera – a member of the IAS team –   attended the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA).

General Meeting held virtually from Doha, Qatar, on 5th January 2022.

IAACA members elected Mr Simon Peh Yun-Lu, head of the Independent Commission
Against Corruption (ICAC), Hong Kong, China, as the President of the IAACA. He succeeds
To Dr Ali Bin Fetais Al-Marri, Attorney General of Qatar from 2002 to 2021.

The IAACA is an independent, non-partisan organisation with more than 140 countries,
regions and jurisdictions as members. The IAACA was founded in 2006 with the aim of
promoting the effective implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and fostering international collaboration in this field.

Commissioner Peh said he would pursue three main goals as President: deepening members’ communication and collaboration through a new regional coordination mechanism, getting the Association more involved in various international platforms, and enhancing its Secretariat to support its members better.

The first President of the IAACA was Jia Chunwang, former head of mainland China’s top prosecutorial body, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. Another head of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Cao Jianming, was later twice elected as IAACA’s President.
